If you find yourself obsessing over diets, food, body image or your weight then this post is worth a read. Here are my top tips on how to make peace with food, learn to love yourself and reclaim your life! Self love is your divine responsibility, goddess.
Stop Tracking, Start Living
Counting calories and tracking macros seems to be the thing everyone is doing right now and according to many it is the only way you can get the figure you desire. However, our bodies are smarter than you may think, they don’t need an app telling them what they can and can’t eat. If you truly listen to your body she already knows what she wants and 9/10 that is healthy fresh nutritious foods in abundance. Why spend all your time counting calories and inputting food in to an app when you could be living your life to its fullest and happiest protentional? And fuelling your body with foods she wants and needs?
I know too many this method works well, and some people have no trouble doing this day in- day out. However, for me personally I found it restricted my life and took over my head space. I now have a much healthier relationship with food without tracking and a much more positive mind set.
Be Real, Not Perfect
Whilst striving for success and progress is great and extremely motivating, don’t chase perfection. The truth is it doesn’t exist; the photos you see on Instagram feature hip popping poses, extremely well thought out lighting, and secret photoshop skills. What we see on social media is also what people want us to see, your favourite fitness account might show that she trains hard, eats well and lives healthy to achieve a curvy toned figure. But what we don’t see on camera is the use of steroids and the serious health implications this causes.
Comparing yourself to others can be the most damaging thing to yourself you could do, YOU are YOU and no one in the world is the same as you, honour that.
“From the very beginning you are being told to compare yourself with others. This is the greatest disease; it is like a cancer that goes on destroying your soul because each individual is unique, and comparison is not possible.” – Osho
Ditch the Scales
All the scales measure is your effect on gravity. They don’t tell you how happy you are, how loved you are or how special you are to those around you. Losing an extra couple of pounds will not suddenly make you happy and love yourself. Instead, you are comparing yourself and feeling as if you aren’t quite yet good enough. But girl, YOU ARE. Not only does weighing yourself endorse negative feelings, it’s also an extremely un accurate way of measuring progress. If you’ve been lifting weights and nourishing your body, the number on the scale is likely to go UP due to gaining lean muscle!
Put Yourself First
Something I spoke about in my last post was putting yourself first. It’s not selfish to say, ‘I need time to myself’ or ‘I don’t feel like doing that today’. When you begin to say no to the people you don’t want to be around or the things you don’t want to do, you begin to say YES to yourself.
If you don’t fancy going out tonight and instead all you want to do is run a hot bath and have an early night then do that! If you don’t want to have a take away and drinks with the girls then just don’t, instead offer to meet up for a coffee or a shopping trip! Putting yourself and your own goals first is one of the best things you can do for yourself, you’ll find you stop judging yourself and start to love yourself. After all, the relationship we are in with ourselves is the most important relationship you will ever be in.
Be Kind to Yourself
Would you speak to your loved ones the same way you speak about yourself? Would you insult those closest to you and scrutinise everything they do? Of course Not! So why do it to yourself?
Never talk down to yourself, in doing this you are setting yourself up for negative thoughts and a negative day. Aim to think of the positives, instead of thinking ‘I’ve had such a lazy day today and skipped the gym’ think ‘today I trained my mind and soul and read a book I have been wanting to read for months!’ Forgive yourself, no one is perfect and we all have off days and that’s fine, but then pick yourself up and move on. When you stop judging yourself, comparing yourself and start being kind to yourself that’s when you will find happiness within yourself.
Next time you look at yourself in the mirror say 3 things you love about yourself before you can think of anything you want to improve.
