5 Habits of a Successful Girl Boss

We all have dreams and goals but sometimes they can seem so unrealistic and unachievable. Do you often wonder how all the other successful girl bosses made it? Are you comparing yourself and wondering if you’ll ever catch up? Well stop… if you aren’t where you want to be yet, no problem! It’s just time to set yourself a killer girl boss routine and begin smashing your goals.

The most important thing is that you don’t give up. You have a dream so chase it. Don’t waste time wondering if it will work out or waiting for the right opportunity. You must create your own opportunity, no one is going to hand it to you on a plate unfortunately. But what’s important is that you realise you have a goal, a dream and a calling and act upon that!

Martin Luther said if you can dream it, you can make it. If you have a clear idea of where you want to be but you don’t know how to go about it, I will show you some of the habits that girl bosses are doing to become popular and super-successful. Everyone’s version of success may be different, so I want to make sure you achieve your own version of success starting from today.

Here are the 5 Top Habits of a Successful Girl Boss:

Make Time for Yourself

Yes, working is important but so are YOU. If you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t take care of other people or your business. Work hard, play hard as they say. It is so important to just chill sometimes, if you’re just working all the time you’ll soon burn out, become unmotivated and just crash whether it be getting ill or just begin to hate what you do.

Self-care is one way you can make time for yourself in the BEST way. Self-care is simply about taking good care of YOU. Doing things to improve your mood, make you feel amazing and brighten your day. It could be as simple as running yourself a bath, going for a walk or buying yourself a treat. But self-care is a responsibility, you need to do it to appreciate yourself, love yourself and be happy in your own skin.

Self-care forces you to slow down, take time for yourself and do things just because they make you happy. It doesn’t make you selfish or self-indulgent, it makes you human. Self-care is an act of survival. It’s strangely attractive in modern society to be SO busy all the time. Without that we aren’t seen as ‘grinding’ or working hard enough. But the truth is to succeed, you need to take care of your number one above all.

Educate Yourself

My mum always used to say, “knowledge is power.” By making yourself knowledgeable you become a much more creditable source. Whether this be just to improve your writing or to educate yourself in your field so you can progress in your career.

However, you should also enjoy what you are studying and know that it is getting you closer to your goals. I recently left university because I was studying a course that just wasn’t for me anymore. I felt it was holding me back and I was eager to get out there and chase my dreams. But I haven’t just come out of the education system all together, I am currently studying my personal training qualifications. I have also considered further courses I can do after that to widen my knowledge and be the best I can be.

Education is not the be all and end all. Heck, some of the most successful business women I know don’t even have GCSE’S. BUT it helps to widen your knowledge and mind, develop new ideas, and learn new skills. Maybe there’s an online course you’ve been looking at for a while or an interesting book your eager to read? DO IT you’ll be more confident in your field in the long run and also appear more creditable to others.

Set Goals

“A goal without a plan is just a wish.”

A successful woman knows where she wants to be and has a plan on how to get there. Setting goals is one thing you cannot escape as a successful girl boss. There is that saying, ‘if you fail to plan, plan to fail’. Planning is so important for your success and for anything you want to achieve.

Set yourself three goals everyday which you plan to accomplish. Ensure they are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely (SMART plan) to ensure you can achieve each goal and measure your success.

By setting yourself too many unrealistic goals, you will only be setting yourself up for disappointment. By ensuring you are following the SMART plan you will have three small ‘wins’ every day and always be getting closer to the bigger picture.

I find having a Planner so important for this. Every day I write down my three SMART goals and then at the end of the day, come back and tick them off. I will also write what I could have done better and three things I am grateful for that day.

Morning Routine

A true boss will always have a KILLER morning routine. She will ensure she’s up early, smashing goals before most people are even out of bed. Whether you are a morning person or not, establishing a morning routine can set a positive tone for the rest of your day and help you create a healthy lifestyle.

I set my alarm for 5:15am every day, get up drink coffee and go to the gym. This ensures that I have done my work out for the day before 7:30am. So that I can get on with the rest of my day without having to think about going to the gym or having a chance of skipping a work out.

On days I’m not at the gym, I will walk the dog or do some yoga. Everyone’s morning routine will be different because I know the gym is not for everyone, but getting up and doing something active will help clear your head, make you feel good and allow you to be so much more productive.

Surround Yourself with Likeminded People

Ever heard the saying “Your vibe attracts your tribe”? Well it is completely true! As humans, we are pack animals. We thrive of other people and need other people for support and encouragement. That’s why it’s so important as a successful girl boss, that the people you have in your life affect you positively and support you no matter what.

Think of your 5 closest friends, are they on the same page as you? Do they support you? Or do you feel like they hold you back?

Not everyone will support you in becoming a girl boss. I have lost some friends in the process but also gained new friends. If they can’t support you doing what you love, then they probably weren’t worth keeping anyway. Now, I have a small group of friends which support me no matter what and are all like-minded and on the same page as me.

No matter what you do, even if you work from home, ensure that you create relationships and friendships that will help you achieve your goals. You never know whose help you may need down the road. Find friends that help you achieve your purpose and stay in contact with them.
