Today, there aren’t many girls which AREN’T on some sort of hormonal contraception. So many young girls are put on to the pill by their GP from the age of 14-15. Often not even for contraception but to regulate periods or prevent acne. This can cause complications later in life because rather than fixing the original problem such as irregular, heavy or painful periods, they have simply masked it with the pill.

This weekend I visited the SFN Expo in Glasgow, a place where thousands of health and fitness enthusiasts gather together to share their love of peanut butter and all things fitness. There was so much going in including Crossfit Competitions, Strongman/ Woman Competitions, Powerlifting, Yoga classes and Les Mills Classes. There was also such a range of amazing speakers hosted on three different stages; the sisterhood stage, the education stage and the main stage.
No, lifting weights will not make you bulky. It will not make you manly. But it WILL make you more confident, more empowered and improve your overall health and wellbeing. There are so many benefits of strength training and I’m yet to find any negatives. No matter your age, schedule, gender, or lifestyle you CAN start strength training and begin to reap the benefits.
If your anything like me, I used to be petrified of the weights area in the gym. I felt intimidated by all the people in there and the whole thing just scared me. Building up my confidence in the gym was something which changed my life. If I’d have stayed petrified of the weights area my whole life would have been different. I wouldn’t have found my passion, my drive, my focus, my confidence and not to mention… my boyfriend!
